The Portuguese international was unveiled as an Al-Nassr player on Tuesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that many clubs, including those from Europe, tried to sign him before Al-Nassr signed him on a record contract.
After his contract with Manchester United was terminated, Ronaldo became a free agent. Despite rumours that no top club wanted to sign him, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner claims otherwise.
According to him, Saudi Arabia is the destination he wanted on a personal level and he could have easily gone elsewhere.
“Nobody knows but I can say now that I had many opportunities in Europe, many clubs in Brazil, in Australia, in U.S. even in Portugal, many clubs tried to sign me,” Ronaldo said at his introductory news conference for Al-Nassr.
“But I give credit to this club for the opportunity to develop not only football but this amazing country. I know what I want and of course what I don’t want as well.”
Ronaldo signed a lucrative contract with the Saudi Arabian side which will see him earn more annually than any other professional player- a reported £173 million per year.
With billboards in Saudi Arabia showcasing the superstar who has just arrived in their country, fans for sure cannot wait to see him on the pitch. The forward may feature for his new side on Thursday when they face Al-Ta’ee in the Saudi football league.
