Military, vigilante kill over 100 bandits in Niger

Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with vigilante operatives, have reportedly killed over 100 armed bandits around Kundu in Wushishi local government area of Niger State.

It was gathered the incident occurred on Wednesday morning.

DAILY POST learnt that the criminals were ambushed by the security agencies while crossing Kontagora road through their usual route towards Akere axis of Kundu.

It was also gathered that the military and the vigilante, who were monitoring the movement of the gunmen through the route, ambushed them which resulted in many casualties on the part of the criminals.

A source from Kundu community told journalists that residents received information that the bandits were coming on motorcycles, however, they later discovered that they discarded the motorcycles and were trekking to where they will launch their attack.

The source stated that the sudden change of mode of transportation was due to information provided by informants to the bandits.

Also, a resident of Wushishi, Ishaku Musa Kato, disclosed that they heard gunshots on Wednesday morning even during the heavy rainfall.

“We commend the military and vigilantes for countering them successfully this time around,” he said.

When contacted, the Niger State Commissioner for Homeland and Security, Retired General Abdullahi Bello Mohammed, confirmed the incident while commanding the military and vigilantes for their exploits.

“The bandits will surely evacuate their injured and corpses. Nobody can not confirm exactly the number of casualties now,” he added.
