Moving with Maverick City Music; Collabs and Awards.

Anyone who knows their onions in the gospel genre will know that Maverick City Music is the top gospel music band at the moment. Ever since Promises hit the market back during the lockdown, it’s been from one hit song to another.

In recent times, they teamed up with The Blessing crooners, Elevation Worship, to produce some of the best sounds ever; on a project they called Old Church Basement. “Old Church Basement” boasts 13 tracks under the Gospel/Contemporary Movement.

Reflecting on the album, Elevation Church Senior Pastor; Steven Furtick said: “It’s really just about getting back to the place where you learned what worship was, wherever that was for you and that’s what we are praying for. That it will be more than just a song that you can listen to, but it will be a sound that brings you back to that pure place where you know that you have a Father and that He cares for you.

Collaborations.

In the album, we see top gospel artists like Chandler Moore, Naomi Rain, Dante Bowe, Joe Barnes—among others—provide spirit-filled, thought-provoking and sincere worship.

In the works, we can expect songs from gospel artists Todd Dulaney and Lacrae as well.

Among others, a major reason for the collabs is to see a group of hybrid artists unconsciously try to bridge the racial divide that exists within the Christian music industry.

Awards.

Jireh, featuring Chandler Moore and Naomi rain, blasts in at No. 1 on Billboard’s airplay. Just yesterday, Maverick City Vol. 3, Part 1 won the award for Top Gospel Album.

The song marks Maverick City’s first No. 1 among its eight appearances. Meanwhile, Jireh is the first song to arrive at the Hot Gospel Songs summit since Kanye West’s Wash Us in the Blood, last July.

Old Church Basement is currently sitting at No. 2 on the iTunes All-Genre Albums chart and No. 1 on the iTunes Christian chart.

In the two years since releasing Maverick City Vol. 1, the group has already earned multiple Billboard No. 1 albums and singles, earned a pair of Dove Award nominations, racked up more than 250 million streams across platforms and amassed more’n a million subscribers on YouTube.

Interestingly, the album Old Church Basement is best summarized by Elevation Worship front-man, Chris Brown; “Before any lights and a stage, for a lot of us it was just a few chords on an acoustic guitar or piano in a youth room with a few of our friends. This collection is so special to us as it’s reminiscent of when we first fell in love with worshipping God.”
