NDLEA Arrests Two Suspects With Illicit Drugs at Abuja Airport

One is a secondary school leaver and the other an European based Nigerian.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended an European based Nigerian and 23-year old secondary school leaver for illicit drugs trafficking at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The agency’s Director for Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

In his statement, he revealed that the two suspects, Iwuyi Prince Princewill Chukwuka and Peter Mkwo were to export about 10 kilograms of hard drugs to Turkey and Belgium respectively.

According to him, Mkwo was arrested on May 28 while trying to board an Ethiopian Airline going to Brussels, Belgium. He was searched and three kilograms of methamphetamine was discovered in a section of his luggage.

After his arrest, Mkwo revealed that he works as a forklift driver in an automobile company at Belgium where he earns £1,700 per month, but he only came to Nigeria for his father’s burial.

“He came to Nigeria for his father’s burial which took place at Awka, Anambra State.” Babafemi said

“After spending two weeks at Awka, he travelled to Uyo to see his sister and later travelled to Lagos to see his girlfriend.”

Mkwo lodged in an hotel at Amuwo Odofin in Lagos state where he met two men who made a proposal to him to carry the drug for onward delivery to Belgium.

“The suspect revealed that the bag containing the drugs was brought to him by the two men on Friday, May 28 before he took off to Abuja where he was to take a flight to Brussels. A sum of £3,000 was promised to him upon successful delivery to one Ishmael in Belgium.”

Meanwhile, 23-year old Chukwuka was arrested with 6.3kg of skunk concealed in crayfish.

Babatunde revealed that the suspect had this (skunk) stuffed inside packs of Golden Morn cereals, but was caught during an outward clearance of Turkish airline flight at the airport.

“During interrogation, he claimed he was travelling for a Diploma study in Tourism and Hotel Management at University of Mediterranean, Karpasia, North Cyprus,’’ he said.
