Nigeria no longer working, only autonomy of LG can save situation – NULGE

The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has said Nigeria has abandoned her constitutional role in terms of security, thus failing the masses.

According to the union, at 61, the country is no longer working as it stated that Nigeria has continued to deteriorate, particularly in the area of security.

The National President of NULGE, Olatunji Ambali, emphasised that the way of the doldrums was to ensure the autonomy of the local government system in the country.

The NULGE President, who stated this in Akure, the Ondo State, capital over the weekend said the current tension across the country was due to the crippling of the third tier of government.

“As of today, you can no longer move from one state to another without initially asking if you will get home safely. Insecurity in the South, East and North.

“This is not the Nigeria of our dreams. We are bedeviled by abject poverty, joblessness, hopelessness, and threat to nationhood.

“This can be traced to the systemic decay and destruction at the LG level. Local government system is the most strategic, most relevant, most popular and most acceptable tier of government in the country.”
