Lack of payments for the drivers by the Federal Government of Nigeria seems to be the reason for the action taken by the drivers.
Nigerian students escaping the current unrest in Sudan are reportedly stranded in the desert after drivers of their buses refused to continue the journey due to lack of payments.
One of the students, whose name was not disclosed said, in a trending video on twitter, that the drivers, who were hired by the Federal Government of Nigeria, have vowed not to continue the journey.
According to her, she and many of her colleagues have no food or water as they have been left stranded in an unknown desert area.
“Before we started this journey, we experienced different things. Can you believe that we have been stuck in this desert for 5 hours. We don’t know the situation we are in.
“We don’t have water. Our money has finished. Can you imagine? The drivers said they are not moving their buses because they have not been paid. We are stuck in the desert. We don’t have anything. We don’t even know where we are. We are in an unknown location and in a very big danger,” the student said.
However, as at the time of writing this post, reports claim that the issue has been resolved and the buses have continued their journey.
