The Nigerian may have to wait until the January transfer window before a move away from the Italian club may materialize.

Nigerian superstar footballer, Victor Osimhen has seen his relationship with Napoli broken following a failed transfer away from the club this summer.

The transfer window for Europe’s top five leagues closed on Saturday at 11:00 Pm, with Osimhen unable to secure a move away from the Naples.

In a transfer saga that spanned throughout the window, Osimhen could not secure a deal to Saudi Arabia side Al-Ahli or Premier League giants Chelsea.

According to reports, Osimhen had reached an agreement with Al-Ahli over a contract worth a reported €40 million (£34m) in wages per season for the next four years, a total of €160 million. However, a deal between the clubs could not materialize when Napoli demanded an extra €5 million to be added on top of the €80 million agreed fee.

The Saudi Arabian club withdrew from the deal and went for Brentford’s Ivan Toney instead.

After receiving this reports, Osimhen and his agent reportedly reacted angrily, with the latter making furious phone calls to club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and the club’s sporting director Giovanni Manna.

With the turn of events, it seems that the relationship between the two parties has become toxic, and he will not be integrated back into the first team.

The 25-year-old has reportedly been left out of Napoli’s squad for the Serie A campaign. His shirt number has also been given to the new signing, Romelu Lukaku, who has arrived to take his place.

Osimhen also saw a transfer to Chelsea broken as the two clubs could not reach an agreement. A move to one of Europe’s top five leagues is now impossible, while the Saudi window closes on September 2.

Except another Saudi team comes with an offer, Osimhen may be stucked without first-team football until the January window opens.
