Pogba sets record as United trash Leeds United.

The Frenchman may have shown Manchester United why they should do everything to tie him down beyond the season.

Paul Pogba was at his sparkling best as United trashed Leeds United 5-1 on Saturday at Old Trafford.

Throughout the 2020-21 season, Pogba registered a total of just 3 assists for the Red Devils in all competitions, but has required just one appearance to better that return.

Pogba registered four assists in the Premier League opening fixture against Leeds. By doing so, he becomes the 7th player to register four assists in a single match.

To even make the feeling sweeter, he now holds the record as the first Man Utd player to do so in the Premier League.

The Frenchman has often had his ability to be a talismanic figure questioned, but he appeared to be very much in the groove against the Whites.

His first assist in the game came when he fizzed a one-touch pass over the top for Bruno Fernandes to put into the net.

Luke Ayling drew the visiting team levelled early in the first half, but United would have the lead again through Mason Greenwood courtesy of a perfect pass from Pogba.

Pogba was not done yet. He provided another assist for Fernandes to score his second of the match, before putting a low cross into the edge of box for Fred to score.

Meanwhile, Pogba wasn’t the only outstanding United player against Leeds.

Fernandes was United’s top scorer last campaign and he doesn’t seem to vacate that position soon. The Portuguese Magnifico scored his first hat-trick for United as he took the match ball home after another spectacular display.

With that hat-trick, he becomes the first United player to score an hat-trick on the opening day of a league season since Lou Macari vs Birmingham in 1977-78.

United would, however be hoping Pogba commits to a new contract before the season runs out.

They would be in action again next weekend when they face Southampton away from home.
