SEE WHO BOUGHT WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE SHEEP FOR OVER N190 MILLION.

World most expensive sheep named, Double Diamond, was finally sold by breeder, Charlie Boden, in an auction held in the Scottish National Texel Sale in Lanark, on Thursday, August 27th, 2020.

The Auction which initially started with a bid of (£10000) which is approximately (N5,172,997.8), dramatically continued, with the initial price escalating into higher bids, and finally came to an halt at a bid of (£367,500), a whooping approximate of (N190,366,320).

The Sheep was bought for the whooping price tag of (£367,500) by a consortium of three bidders who hope to recover their investment through breeding.

The price of the sheep sets a new record for world’s most expensive sheep, as the new price overshadows the former record of a sheep sold in 2009 for (£230,000) approximately (N119,3 41,189.09).

The sheep sold, Double Diamond, is an embryo bred lamb. “An embryo bred lamb is a lamb which is the result of an embryo transfer( a form of IVF) in livestock, in which the female animal is artificially inseminated and then embryos collected from her six days later and implanted into surrogate mothers ” explained an official from Texel Sheep Society as quoted by the Independent.

Double Diamond is considered to be genetically perfect. Jeff Aiken, one of Double Diamond’s buyers said, “He was just an outstanding animal backed up by all the best genetics.”

Mr Aiken said, “Double Diamond is the best lamb I have ever seen, and worth the whooping price tag.“

Mr Aiken also stressed that the obscene price used to purchase Double Diamond does not alter the fact that sheep farmers are facing economic crisis.

Mr Aiken said, “Don’t get me wrong , it is an obscene amount to pay for a sheep, and it definitely should not be a reflection on the farming community, there is only a small percentage of farmers that can afford to pay this kind of money.”
