Senators seek to impeach President Buhari, walk out on Lawan during plenary

The Senate has discovered that even the country’s capital is no longer a safe place.

Some Senators, on Wednesday, reportedly walked out on the Senate President, Dr Ahmed Lawan during a plenary in protest against the worsening security situation in the country.

It is believed that this happened because the Senate President allegedly refused the Minority Leader, Senator Philip Aduda to lead the motion on the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari over increasing insecurity issues in the country.

Upon refusal to raise the issue, Aduda and some other lawmakers (presumed to be Senators of the PDP) stormed out of the Chambers in anger.

While speaking at a press briefing, moments after storming out of the plenary, Amuda revealed that they have issued the President a six-week ultimatum to resolve the persistent insecurity issue or face impeachment.

According to him, the issue needed to be addressed immediately because “even Abuja, the seat of the Federal Government is not safe anymore”.

He however recalled that the legisture had summoned various recommendations, but the issue remains and they are only committed to the impeachment of President Buhari now.

Aduda told the press:

“We went into a closed-door session on the state of insecurity in Abuja and took cognisance that Nigeria is no longer safe.

“Senate has recommended various measures and discovered that even Abuja is no longer safe.

“We agreed in the closed session that we will give President Muhammadu Buhari an ultimatum, but the Senate President Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan didn’t want us to raise the issue.

“However, we have issued six weeks for President Buhari to resolve insecurity or be impeached.

“We walked out of Chambers in protest.”
