The federal government of Nigeria has disclosed the reasons behind the appointment of Major-General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff after the death of former COAS, Ibrahim Attahiru .
The federal government shed some light on the reasons for Yahaya’s appointment through the minister of defence, Major-General Bashir Salihi-Magashi (rtd).
In a statement released by the minister of defence spokesman, Mohammed Abdulkadri on Friday, May 28, the federal government disclosed that President Buhari decision was fuelled by patriotism and the need for national cohesion.
The Statement Read;
“President Buhari has expediently put national interest above ethnic and religious chauvinism by fulfilling all requirements necessary.”
Bashir also expressed his positivity over the professional pedigree of the new COAS in sustaining the trajectory of taking offensive and aggressive campaigns to the camps, corridors and cells of Nigeria’s enemies with the aim of obliterating them.
