The federal government of Nigeria has reacted to the deletion of President Buhari’s tweet by one of the world’s biggest social media platforms, Twitter.
The President, in his now deleted tweet warned of strong actions against the activities of secessionists.
Speaking on behalf of the federal government, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday, June 2, said that Twitter’s action is suspicious and that Nigeria won’t be fooled.
Lai Mohammed accused Twitter of being biased over the issues concerning Nigeria internal and domestic affairs.
The minister claimed that President Buhari has the right to fully express his idea on security challenges in the country.
According to reports from The Nation, Lai Mohammed accused Twitter of double standard, he also criticised for allegedly ignoring inciting tweets by the secessionist groups against Nigeria.
Lai Mohammed said;
“Twitter may have its own rules; it’s not the universal rule. If Mr.President any where in the world feels very bad and concerned about a situation, he is free to express such views.
“Two, any organization that gives directives to its members, to attack two station, to kill policemen, to attack correctional centers, to kill warders, and you are now saying that Mr.President does not have the right to express his dismay and anger about that?. They are the ones guilty of double standards.”
