Kadiri Akeem, a lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), was detained by police officers in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 20-year-old student.
When the victim went to Dr. Babalola’s office to address problems with her results, she accused the associate professor of botany of committing the crime.
The girl said that Babalola, the lecturer raped her on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, and that she reported the incident to an Organization, the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation.
The state CP, Idowu Owohunwa, issued an arrest warrant for Babalola through the state High Court after InclusiveSWEF reported the situation to the Gender Unit of the state police command. UNILAG’s vice chancellor was also involved.
The VC had seven days to present Babalola, and the NGO said that when the VC called the rogue lecturer in for questioning, he had confessed to the crime. Babalola was taken into custody after the VC contacted the police via the school’s chief security officer.
Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said: “He is to appear in court in the coming days.”
