It was a spectacular evening for the Three Lions.
England began their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with a bang as they trash Iran 6-2 in the opening group-stage match of group B.
Despite enduring a roller-coaster ride before the World Cup, the Three Lions were determined to make a statement of intent.
They got what they deserved as teenage sensation Jude Bellingham met a perfectly timed Luke Shaw cross to head past a stagnant Iran goalkeeper in the 34th minute.
It was England from there on as Arsenal’s superstar, Bukayo Saka doubled the lead in the 43rd minute with a wonderful strike. Raheem Sterling got in the act just before half-time to make it three.
Bukayo Saka got his second of the game in the 62nd minute, before Iran’s Mehdi Taremi also got on the score sheet.
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Manchester City’s Jack Grealish also scored to make it five and six respectively, before a late Taremi’s penalty served as a consolation for Iran. The match ended 6-2.
England would be looking to build on this result as the competition progresses. They would still face the United States of America and Wales in Group B.
