6 confirmed dead, 16 injured in Gombe road accident – FRSC

The commission stated that the accident was a lone accident.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has confirmed that six people lost their lives in a ghastly road accident that occured on Friday morning at Jekadefari in Gombe State.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the state sector commander of FRSC, Felix Theman, confirmed the accident. According to him, the accident, which was a lone accident, involved a trailer conveying 27 cows and has also caused injuries on 16 other persons.

Theman stated that the trailer driver lost control of the vehicle and plunged into a ditch.

He said, “The crash that happened this morning was a lone crash involving a trailer carrying 27 cows; the crash occurred on Abacha Road, Jekadefari.”

Theman explained that the dead bodies have been taken to a nearby mortuary in Gombe, while the injured persons have been taken to an hospital for medical attention. He stated that the trailer driver used a road not meant for trailers, as the state government had banned heavy duty vehicles from plying the road.

The state sector commander also urged residents to prevent their children from playing on tarred roads to reduce the rate of accidents. He mentioned, also, that investigation was ongoing to find out if the person driving the trailer was the actual driver of the trailer.
