Lessons from Blue Therapy (The show)

Blue Therapy can be judged as the most talked-about show this year. The show was centred on the life of two couples undergoing therapy. Each couple had their set of challenges which they shared on camera with therapist Denis.

The couples were:

Choima and Paul

Deborah and Jamal

Except for Jamal who was a Ghanaian, the rest were London based Nigerians. The show’s finale premiered yesterday leaving fans with lots of opinions.

Well, here are lessons to be learned. Remember, the only cheat code in life is learning from the experience of others.

Lessons Inspired by Blue Therapy

  • People change, and some lose themselves in the process. So the man or woman you loved yesterday, might act differently today.  If you cannot stand your partner’s new self, kindly walk away. Quit compromising just to be with someone who causes you pain. Paul was no longer the chubby guy that was madly in love with Chioma. He is now the guy who walks into a room feeling he is the smartest, a huge catch, therefore, he acts rudely and speaks inconsiderately. She ought to have left that relationship a while back.
  • Having a partner that believes you are worth listening to and values your input, and opinions is key. Paul felt he was the wiser one and wanted to be in control. His partner’s opinions and needs did not mean much to him. They were like noise to his ears, and he paid them no mind. He was a control freak who felt he was the next best thing after the death of Christ. Flee from people with a god complex.
  • Deborah was a spoilt brat who places fashion pieces over real investment. She believes it is the man’s place to bring things to the table and shower her with gifts while she brings little or nothing. Women with such mentalities should be fled from. In a relationship, both parties should be willing to bring things to the table else one partner would be a liability.
  • Never compare your relationship to that of others, the field always appears greener on the other side. Constantly, comparing her relationship to that of her friend is a huge flaw on Deborah’s part.
  • Do not enter a relationship if you cannot set boundaries between yourself and members of the opposite gender. Being sneaky and unfaithful to your partner makes you a horrible person, and Jamal was horrible.
  • Trust your guts but try not to nag too much. It makes you look crazy and insecure. Also, flee from partners like Jamal that makes you look crazy. If he makes you feel insecure you have to start tracking his movements then he is not for you.
  • Manipulative and toxic partners should not be condoned. In their hands, you could become a shadow of yourself. Run from controlling partners.
  • Avoid condescending partners that speak rudely to people. Flee from people that are always boasting about what they do and earn.
  • Make time for your partner romantically. It is a relationship, not a business. Do not move in with a man before marriage.
  • Respect the men/women in your siblings’ lives.
  • Finally, self-love is key. Love yourself so much that you cannot tolerate anyone treating you less than you deserve.

Conclusion

There are still concerns about the authenticity of the show. Some argue that it is scripted, others claim it is real. Whether it is real or not, best believe there are many Pauls and Jamals out there, ensure you are not there Deborah or Chioma.
