ASUU: No work, no pay, FG insists

Minister for Education insists that the government would not go back on the no work, no pay policy.

The Federal Government has insisted that the “No work, No pay” policy for university lecturers would not be deviated from.

This was revealed by the Minister for Education, Adamu Adamu during a briefing with State House correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU called off an 8-month-old strike in October following the directive of the Court of Appeal. A strike which was centred p restructuring of payment of its staff by the Federal Government.

Following the strike call-off, the Federal Government paid the lecturers half their salaries for October, while insisting that it would not pay for the months the lecturers were on strike.

Adamu Adamu reaffirmed the government’s position saying the lecturers “would not be paid for work not done”

He also reacted to the allegation made by the President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke who said that paying the lecturers on a pro-rata basis is a ploy to make them casual workers.

“Nobody can make university lecturers casual workers,” he said.
