The court sentenced him to prison without an option of a fine.

A Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State has sentenced one Temitope Oladimeji to one year in prison for stealing two ORL ceiling fans.

The 46-year-old bricklayer was sentenced to prison by the Magistrate V. B. Williams-Oyetunji after he pleaded guilty to the charges of stealing levelled against him. The Magistrate also ordered that he served his jail term without an option of a fine.

At the trial, the Prosecutor, Insp. Lawrence Olu-Balogun told the court that the convict committed the crime in November 2023 at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Abeokuta.

According to him, Oladimeji, who was employed as a bricklayer by the school, was discovered to have been stealing valuables from the school whenever he visited the school. He said that when the school noticed some of it’s properties were missing, the bricklayer was the key suspect.

“The authorities decided to send some officials to his (Oladimeji’s) house and on getting there they found the two ORL ceiling fan valued ₦39,000 belonging to the school,” the prosecutor said.

Olu-Balogun added that the defendant (the bricklayer) confessed to been behind the thefts of other missing items after he was arrested. This, he said, contravened Sections 383 and 390 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
