Wilbur won after unseating the incumbent, Brynneth Paltrow, a rescued pit bull mix, after winning the election. The Louisville Courier-Journal reveals that this year holds the highest votes ever contested in an election, totalling 22,985 votes.
In reality, “The people of Rabbit Hush, Kentucky has never had had an actual person or human as a mayor,” Amy Noland, Wilbur’s human owner, told NBC News. According to her, the tradition has been going on since the 1990s.
The Story?
“There was a man named Don Claire who thought it would be a great idea to elect some type of animal—not necessarily a canine—as mayor of town, as a fundraising event for the historical society,” she continued.
Noland stated that there was a thriving community of dog lovers in the town—including her. She confessed to fostering kittens, cats, and rescue digs and admitted she has two more rescue dogs in addition to Mayor Wilbur.
Speaking on why she described Wilbur as an “anomaly”, she explained that he was an American Kennel Club registered purebred dog (whatever that means…).
“He was just so cute.” (Awn…)
This Makes Wilbur the…
…Fifth dog mayor ever since the first, Goofy. The last mayor lasted from 2016 through to 2020.
She went on to clarify, “Although it is not in any way political, it always coincides with the US Presidential Elections.”
“Wilbur is handling the stress of the new job pretty well: He’s done a lot of interviews locally, he’s had a lot of pets, a lot of belly scratches, and a lot of ear rubs.” [LOL]
Let us wish Mayor Wilbur well as he continues to discharge his duties efficiently and competently for the town.
