The presidency has debunked reports that Gimba Yau Kumo, who is declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is a son-in-law of the president.

Kumo, alongside two other suspects were declared wanted by the ICPC on Thursday for allegedly diverting a sum of $65 million slated for national housing funds.
A published notice was released by a spokesman of ICPC, Azuka Ogugua. In the notice, Gimba Yau Kumo and two other accomplices were declared wanted for corrupt practices and misappropriation of funds.
“The persons whose pictures appear above, Mr. Tarry Rufus, Mr. Gimba Yau Kumo and Mr. Bola Ogunsola, are hereby declared WANTED by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with issues bordering on misappropriation of National Housing Funds and diversion of the sum of Sixty Five Million dollars ($65,000,000).” The notice read.
Ever since this news surfaced, reports have emerged that Kumo is a son-in-law to President Buhari. According to reports, Kumo was said to have married Fatima, one of Buhari’s daughter.
Meanwhile, Garba Shehu, a media aide to the president has released a statement saying that the marriage between the two has since been dissolved and he(Kumo) is not Buhari’s son-in-law.
“To set the records straight, the person declared wanted by the ICPC is not an inlaw to President Buhari.
“While at some point in time the said fugitive from justice had been linked to a family member in marriage, that relationship has ended some years ago.
“It is therefore unfortunate to bring the President’s family into this case.It is in our view an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting.” The statement read.
Shehu also reaffirmed President Buhari’s readiness to stamp out corruption from the country irrespective of who is involved.
“The president’s position at all times is that the law be allowed to take its course. As is well known of him, President Muhammadu Buhari will not provide any cover for crime, no matter who is involved.” He added
