I’ve heard people say marijuana is just as safe as, or even safer than alcohol, but then is this accurate because I’ve also heard the effects marijuana has on the body, brain, and has also been linked to lung changes, memory loss, and several other health problems.

So what is the real truth about Marijuana? and how safe is safe?

Although there isn’t much proof that the occasional toke leads to long-term health problems, research has proven that long-term, heavy pot smoking can leave lasting effects.

“I don’t think we can definitively say it is safe,” says Jeanette Marie Tetrault, MD, FACP. She’s an assistant professor of medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine.

Aside from the effects marijuana has on the lungs and the brain, it also has other side effects such as Anxiety, Depression, Suicidal thoughts in teens.

Marijuana can also lead to other addictions especially in people who start smoking it at a very young age. That’s why it’s sometimes called a “gateway drug.” Young people who smoke marijuana are more likely to abuse other drugs, including prescription.

So if you ask me is Cannabis safe? I’ll tell you, to fully understand the effects of marijuana, more research needs to be done.
