NDLEA arrests 85 suspects partying with drugs at a club in Kano.

The agency also pleaded with members of the public to report drug-related activities as there would be no hiding place for perpetrators.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 85 drug suspects from a nightclub in Kano on Monday.

In a statement issued by the agency’s commander of the state on Tuesday, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the arrests followed complaints about drug-related activities at the club.

According to the statement, a total of 85 suspects were arrested – 55 of which are males and the rest females.

He also stated that the arrest was issued after members of the host community complained that the club had turned into a drug den.

“The arrest of the suspects is a significant victory for the NDLEA in its fight against drug-related activities in Kano State.

“Drug abuse and trafficking have serious negative consequences, not only on individuals but also on the society,” the statement read.

Idris-Ahmad also said that some of the suspects tried to evade arrest by jumping over the fence, while others tried to hide inside deep freezers, but they were all arrested.

The suspects are under interrogation to identify the drug traffickers among them before they are all arraigned.

“The drug users will be referred to the appropriate unit for counselling,” he said.

Idris-Ahmad also called on members of the community to report drug-related activities to the agency as there would be no hiding place for drug dealers in the state.
