Talks to sign the 34-year-old have intensified on Friday and it is thought a deal is unlikely to take too long to complete.
Paris Saint-Germain is on the verge of signing Lionel Messi on a free transfer after he left Barcelona.
The Blaugrana announced their captain and greatest ever player would be leaving last night due to the club being unable to register a new five-year contract that looked set to be announced.
As for president Joan Laporta, La Liga deemed the contract to be invalid because of financial regulations they have in place.
It now appears PSG, managed by Messi’s compatriot Mauricio Pochettino, have emerged as the frontrunners for his signature, in a move that would reunite him with former Barcelona team-mate Neymar.
PSG had clearly been monitoring the situation very closely and having been touted as favorites for the Argentine, multiple reports say they have reached an agreement to bring him to the French capital.
Earlier on Friday, it was reported that Neymar had offered Messi his No.10 shirt at the Parc Des Princes.
However, despite being appreciative of the gesture, Messi is said to have turned down Neymar’s proposal even if he does join him in Paris.
With the state of Qatar behind the club, don’t expect any hang-ups with this deal, and they have far more room to maneuver than Barcelona ever did at any stage of these negotiations.
Messi will join PSG because he is attracted to their sporting project, he wants to give the team their first Champions League, and because it is a very easy life in Ligue 1, alongside his friend.
The signing of Messi will also add a unique strand to the tapestry that is Kylian Mbappe‘s situation with the Parisian club.
