Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi makes a surprise visit to the Southern area of Borno as the party gears up for the upcoming general elections.

Obi visited the state on Wednesday, as part of his campaign tours in the North ahead of the elections in February.

Accompanied by his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed and some other members of the party, Obi promised to alleviate the sufferings and tears of the hardworking people of the region.

I am one of you and feel your plight. I know that you are all hardworking and want to go back to your farms,” Obi said.

“I am giving you my word that this insecurity issue will be a thing of the past in my administration and I will ensure that my government gives you the best of life. Thank you for everything you have done for the country and I will never forget you. A new Nigeria is possible!”

Southern Borno comprises of nine Local Government Areas including Chibok, Hawul, Askira Uba and Gwoza. These areas have endured series of attack from notorious terrorist group, Boko Haram.

With Obi promising to alleviate their sufferings, perhaps there is truly hope for a new Nigeria as he said.
