The woman who was mobbed by them was said to have stolen a phone.
The Edo State Police Command have arrested three teenagers identified as Blessing Lucky, 15, Naomi Ekhonetomwan, 17, and Jennifer Eboigbe, have been arrested alongside two others, for stripping one Christabel Akhigbe naked.
According to reports, Akhigbe was alleged to have stolen a phone, after which she was beating and stripped naked by the suspects.
The other suspects wear identified as Jennifer Eboigbe, 30, and Iziegbe Ogbodu.
They were arrested for indecent assault and cyber stalking and have now been paraded at the command headquarters in Benin, Edo State Capital.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adeboye, who paraded the suspects on Friday May 3, 2024, explained that the suspects accused the victim of stealing an android phone belonging to one Lucky and called her to return the said phone.
After Akhigbe had returned the phone to the owner, the suspects lured her into Lucky’s mother’s house, beat her and stripped her naked and threatened to put pepper in her private part.
He added that the suspects recorded a video of the act, which has gone viral on social media.
Adeboye also explained that the suspects were arrested by police operatives on receiving the report. They have since confessed to their crime and will soon be charged to court.
“The Edo Police Command have arrested five females for stripping a woman for allegedly stealing an android phone. They then made a video of the victims while naked and posted it online.
“They have now become suspects in a case they should have been the complaints,” the CP.
In conclusion, the Police chief also warned citizens not to take laws into their own hands, but they should instead report to the right authorities.
He said the police will cooperate with human rights bodies to ensure the the suspects pay for their crimes.
