The teacher has been placed under intensive care as a result of the injuries sustained.
A 6-year-old boy has been detained by the police after shooting a teacher in the US state of Virginia.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 pm (US local time) at Richneck Elementary School in the city of Newport News.
According to the police, it is unclear how the child obtained the gun, but the incident was not an ‘accidental shooting.’ It occurred after an altercation between the pair.
The teacher – whose name has been withheld, is believed to be in her 30s and has sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting.
She has been placed under close monitoring by doctors at a local hospital while investigations to determine what happened between the pair commence.
