This is how the jail break in Edo state happened- NCS

Nigerian Correctional Service(NCS) has confirmed the jail break into Benin and Oko prisons, in Benin city on Monday, October 19th.

Premium Times reports that the statement affirming the dreadful incident was given by NCoS spokesperson, AC Njoku.

2709updates gathered that the statement declared that the NCoS has already commenced investigations to search for the escaped inmates.

It was reported that over 100 hoodlums broke into the cells and freed many jail inmates in the process.

The gun duel between armed squad of prison officials and the hoodlums caused gunshot injuries of several persons around the vicinity.

The Statement read, “Custodial centres were attacked this morning by suspected protesters under the #EndSARS protest in Benin and Oko in Benin.”

The NCoS also condemned the protesters for their non-peaceful and violent destructive actions. They also noted that the exact number of escapees and casualties were yet to be confirmed, adding that the exact number of escapees will be made known to the public after preliminary investigations.

Njoku said, “Efforts are underway to arrest the situation and return normalcy back to the centres. The armed squad personnel of the service is working tirelessly to bring the situation under control.”

According to premium times, a journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, said that the jail-break in Benin was stage-managed by unknown persons.

“This was stage-managed, who did this I cannot tell you, because these people are smart. It’s not possible without the collusion of the insiders without proper ammunition,” he said.

“Hoodlums that are not well stocked in terms of ammunition cannot from outside launch a jail break of that magnitude,” he said.

“I read in a report that hoodlums started gathering around 7 am around the prisons. In any prison in Nigeria, once there is unrest outside, any slightest scene of danger outside, what the prison wardens do is to order all inmates back into their cells and they lock them up,” he said.

“The event you saw in the video of the outbreak is not a natural occurrence, I can tell you confidently that that was not a natural occurrence,” he added.
