The federal government of Nigeria has said that the ongoing #EndSARS protest in the country is no longer peaceful and has issued a strong warning to the protesters that it will not allow anarchy in the country.
2709updates gathered that the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed said this on October 17th, 2020, when he featured on a late night Nigeria Television Authority(NTA) news programme, “Weekend File.“

During the programme, Lai Mohammed said that the assassination attempt on Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state, was a clear sign that the ongoing #EndSARS protest had been hijacked by hoodlums and people with ulterior motive.
According to Mohammed, the original conveners of the #EndSARS protest might have meant well, but the violence that has trailed in protests in some parts of the country shows that they are no longer in control of the movement.
“Peaceful protest is an integral part of democracy and that is why the Federal Government in the last 11 days has treated protesters in a very civilised manner,” Lai Mohammed said.
“But, if you look at what happened to the governor of Osun state, it has gone beyond peaceful protest against excesses and abuse of power by the police.
“There is no where in the world where a government will fold it’s arms and allow the country to descend into anarchy.

Mohammed also noted that the federal government of Nigeria has nothing against peaceful protest but it requires that all protests in the country be carried out in a peaceful and civilised manner. He said that the protesters can carry out a civilised protest by not blocking roads and highways in the country.
“We have nothing against peaceful protest, but there are civilised ways of doing so, this is by going to a venue where you are not going to disturb other Nigerians because where your own right stops, other persons’ rights begins,” he said.
