The players have have been lauded by the president despite their final loss at the competition.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bestowed the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) to the players of the Super Eagles of Nigeria after they represented the country at the just concluded 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.

Additionally, the players have also been given plots of lands in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as tokens of appreciation for their endeavors at the competition.

The president extended his gratitude and admiration to the Super Eagles for their exploits at the competition during a ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the State House.

Despite their 2-1 loss in the final to the hosts Cote d’Ivoire, the players were lauded and recognized as exemplary representatives of the Nigerian footballing prowess.


The national honour of Member of the Order of Niger (MON) is usually given to athletes’ who have contributed immensely to the nations sports excellence and national pride.
