Trader sentenced to two years imprisonment for stealing broiler chickens

The decision was taken by the court after investigations were concluded.

An Upper Area Court in Jos has sentenced Suleiman Yakubu- an 18-year-old, to two years imprisonment for stealing two broiler chickens from a woman’s house.

The decision to sentence Yakubu was taken by Judge, David Damulak on Wednesday following a guilty plea to trespass and theft.

According to reports gathered, the convict trespassed into the woman’s house with his friend, who escaped, and stole two big broiler chickens which were later recovered from him.

While the convict was arrested and asked to stand to take pictures with the stolen chickens for exhibit, he tried to escape and was re-arrested.

Justice Damulak, however, gave the convict an option to pay a N25,000 fine or 12 months for trespass and another N10,000 or 12 months for theft.

He also said that this would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal act.
