BREAKING: ASUU set to call off ongoing strike as FG exempts the body from IPPIS.

There is a big chance that the Academic Staff Union for Universities will call off it’s near-a-year strike as the Federal Government of Nigeria finally exempts the body from IPPIS after a 7-hour meeting held on November 20 .

The federal government also offered additional 15 billion naira to ASUU, to settle the payment of lecturer’s allowances.

Making the total sum of money provided by FG to ASUU a cumulative of 65billion in order to strengthen the university system in the country and for settlement of lecturer’s allowances.

This is coming up after several weeks of negotiation between the Federal Government and ASUU.

The minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige said that the federal government has shifted ground on some of the demands of ASUU.

Chris Ngige also said that the salary arrears of ASUU members from February to June 2020 will be paid through the old payment platform, GIFIMS.

However, the meeting between Federal Government and ASUU has been adjourned to next week Friday, November 27th, for the stakeholders to fully agree on the resolutions.
