BREAKING NEWS: Deborah Samuel’s remains buried in her home town

The deceased was buried today amidst tears and controversy.

The remains of late Deborah Samuel, who was burned alive, have been laid to rest in her hometown on Saturday, 14th of May.

Deborah who was a student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, was stoned to death and set ablaze by her fellow students on Thursday.

This was a result of a blasphemous statement she made about Islam which didn’t sit well with her colleagues.

Deborah’s remains have now been buried in her hometown, Tungan Magajiya in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State, although amidst serious controversy.

According to reports gathered, the Sokoto Government allegedly demanded that the body be kept in the mortuary until the case is resolved.

However, the family of the deceased disagreed and reaffirmed that they wanted her remains to be laid to rest today.

Reports have also stated that since news of the unfortunate incident reached her parents, her mother has been unconscious, while the father is yet to recover from the shock and pain.

Also, at the burial site prepared for her at the town’s cemetary today, there were disagreements as some youths refused to let her remains be laid to rest there.

According to them, the site was prepared for someone another deceased person in the area.

Deborah’s body was then deposited in the morgue to avoid further argument pending efforts to make the youths see the reasons for her immediate burial.

“But, when we prevailed on the youth, they saw reason with us and allowed us to bury her in the grave under contention. This is because the body is burnt and not good to the eyes,” the family’s pastor said.

Deborah had been living with some of her family members since she was in primary school before her unfortunate death.

While we await the government’s decision on the matter, Deborah has been laid to rest. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
