Nigerian tertiary institutions faced a great setback when all institutions in the country were shut down as a result of the strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU).

The union’s strike which started in late March 2020 lasted for over 9 months, this affected Nigerian university students adversely as they did not recieve lectures during the period.

Adding more to students griefs, tertiary institutions in the country could not resume academic activities as ASUU called of its strike during the festive period in the country.

Also, because of the spread of Coronavirus in the country, the federal government suspended all academic activities in the country. This directive was issued by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

However, there is good news for some Nigerian students as some top universities in the country have announced their resumption dates :

Here Are 3 Top Nigerian Universities That Have Announced Their Resumption Dates:

1. University of Benin

The students(both old and new) of the University of Benin, Edo State, have been given a directive issued by the university’s management to resume for 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions on January 30th, 2021.

Reports gathered say that this was disclosed in a circular issued after the end of the University’s Senate meeting held on January 4th by the institution’s public relations officer, Benedicta Ehanire.

2. University of Ilorin

University of Ilorin board of managers announced that the institution will resume it’s academic activities for the Rain Semester on January 11th, 2021.

However, lectures given to students will be strictly delivered online in line with the directives of NUC.

3. Bayero University, Kano State.

The Senate of Bayero University, Kano announced that the university will resume full academic on January 18th, 2021, for first semester, while second semester will begin on May 3, 2021.

The University’s Senate also announced the cancellation of 2019-2020 academic sessions.

The post-graduates in the university have been directed to resume on January 18th, 2021 for guitar semester, and second semester will begin June 1, 2021.
