BREAKING: ASUU Finally Calls Off Nine-Month Old Strike.

After several meetings held between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), an agreement has been reached, as the body(ASUU) on Wednesday, December 23, finally called off its nine month-old strike which started early in March, 2020.

Reports have been gathered that the announcement was made by the President of ASUU, Professor Ogunyemi during a meeting held by the union in Abuja, he also said that the union has consulted the National Executive Council(NEC) over the new development.

He said;

“Academic Staff Union of Universities- and Nigeria(federal government) has finally agreed on major issues that will lead to the termination of its ten month old strike.”

Also, Ogunyemi further said that ASUU will be holding their own executive meeting to reach a conclusion and get back to the government within 24hrs.

ASUU Finally Calls Off Nine-Month Old Strike After Reaching Agreement With Federal Government

Meanwhile, reports have been gathered that the Federal government has started paying the two month arrears of university lecturers.

After this development, ASUU hinted on Tuesday, December 22 that there’s a high possibility of the body calling off its strike soon.

Also, the federal government of Nigeria had earlier made an announcement on Monday, December 21, that university students will be returning to class in January, 2021.
