Emirates Airline Indefinitely Suspend Flights to Nigeria

In less than two weeks of resuming flights to Nigeria, Emirates Airline has suspended flights from Dubai to Nigeria indefinitely.

This suspension will take effect from Monday the 13th of December 2021. Emirates Airline will operate their last flights from Dubai to Lagos and Abuja on Sunday the 12th of December 2021.

The Reason Behind the Suspension

The indefinite flight suspension is a result of the tussle between the U.A.E and the Nigerian government.

According to U.A.E directives, Peace Airline (a private Nigerian airline) is to operate one flight per week to Dubai. In response, the Nigerian government imposed the same restriction on Emirates Airline.

Emirates Airline is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group. The airline is based in Garhoud. It is owned by the government of Dubai’s Investment Corporation of Dubai.

Emirates Airline is the largest airline in the world. The giant airline company will indefinitely suspend all flights to Nigeria. This will go on until the U.A.E and the Nigerian government come to acceptable terms.

This is not the first time Emirates Airline has suspended flights to Lagos and Abuja. In 2020, there was a disagreement between them and the Nigerian federal government over COVID-19 protocols. A suspension was put in place and it lasted for ten months. In less than two weeks of resuming flights to Nigeria, they are going on another suspension.

The Plight of Those Who Have Booked Emirates Tickets

If you have booked an Emirates ticket to Lagos or Abuja, your flight will not occur.

However, customers are advised to hold on to their tickets. Whenever the suspension is lifted, contact your travel agent or booking office to make new travel plans.

In a released statement, Emirates said they regret any inconvenience this suspension will cause their customers. Also, they are willing to resume their services once restrictions are removed by the Nigerian government.

Usually, many Nigerians rely on Emirates Airline to travel to Dubai for both business and vacations. Unfortunately, that will not be the case this festive season.
