It was a night to remember for Olivier Giroud as he bagged two goals to take his tally for his country to 42.

Giroud made his 100th appearance for the French national team on Wednesday against Ukraine and scored two goals in quick succession. These two goals saw him surpass Michael Platini as the second-highest scorer in France history.

Prior to the match, Giroud was on 40 goals – only one behind the Juventus legend. After the match, the Chelsea striker went one ahead of Platini with only Thierry Henry ahead of him.

Henry leads the way for France with 51 goals in 123 caps. The 34-year-old would be hoping to overtake him among the ranks.

The Chelsea man becomes only the 8th player to have managed 100 caps for France with Lilian Thuram leading the rank as the most-capped Frenchman with 142 appearances. Hugo Lloris, Thierry Henry, Didier Deschamps, Patrick Viera, Zinedine Zidane and Marcel Desailly are the other players to have managed that feat.

The match against Ukraine saw another star make history. Eduardo Camavinga became the second-youngest player to score for France since 1914. The 17-year-old who plays his club football at Stade De Rennes, scored with a wonderful bicycle kick after just nine minutes.

Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe also scored as France thrashed Ukraine 7-1 on the night.
