Lagos govt reaffirms safety of Ojodu Berger footbridge, declares it structurally safe for use

The state government had sent engineers to survey the pedestrian bridegroom to determine its condition.

Lagos State Government has reaffirmed that the pedestrian bridge at Ojodu Berger bus stop is structurally safe and stable for human use.

A statement, which was issued on Wednesday by the Spokesman of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Shina Odunuga, stated that the state government values the life and safety of residents.

According to the statement, the reassessment of the safety of the bridge became necessary due to a media report suggesting that the structure may not be safe for humans. The reports alleged that the structure was swaying and vibrating.

It also said that engineers from the office of infrastructure in the ministry had conducted a survey and physical assessment of the bridge to determine its condition, assuring that it was safe for use by pedestrians.

The statement added that the reinforced concrete six-legged bridge, which cuts across the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at Berger bus stop experienced slight vibrations because of the heavy duty vehicles passing underneath. This, however, does not undermine the quality of the bridge.

“From the survey conducted on the bridge, it shows no visible signs of damage to the deck and the reinforced concrete bridge is intact.

“Consequently, it is confirmed that no part of the bridge’s substructure has been compromised and it is deemed safe for public use,” it added.
