Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in Nigeria, the federal government ordered all schools to be shutdown nationwide. And to the bewilderment of most students in the country, schooling activities stopped for over six month now.

But all thanks to God, the Federal government of Nigeria recently gave approval for the full reopening of schools across the country. Many States in the country have stipulated scheduled resumption dates for their schools. What does 2709updates know about Nigerian Schools Resumption date 2020?

The Presidential Task-Force(PTF) on Covid-19 announced the approval of the full reopening of schools in Nigeria on September 3rd, 2020.

The Body(PTF) ordered States making moves to reopen schools to ensure that all Schools are at the level of compliance and urged state governments to provide a mechanism to monitor schools level of compliance. In order to control the spread of the Virus, the coordinator of PTF, Sani Aliyu has announced that the reopening of schools in Nigeria will be done in phases.

Sani Aliyu said,”For educational institutions which include daycare, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions should begin the process of working towards potentially reopening within this phase. However, we Strongly recommend that states conduct risk assessment to ensure all schools are at the level of compliance and create a monitoring mechanism to access and monitor this level of compliance.

He added, “Meanwhile all daycare and educational institutions are to remain closed to in-passing classes until this level of risk is assessed and if there must be reopening of schools, it must be staged and preferably carried out in phases to ensure that this does not pose a risk to the General public, and in particular developer bill groups that might end up getting infected by students going back home.

Some state Governors including Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State announced, September 21st,2020, as the resumption date for schools. However, these State governors have been warned by the federal government to ensure that all schools maintain Covid-19 protocols.

On September 14, Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, said that the government will not hesitate to shut down any school that does not adhere to the Covid-19 protocols. He also said that State governments that are reopening their schools are in Tune with PTF guidelines, and that Nigerian Universities that want to reopen must first get clearance from the National Universities Commission(NUC) before resuming school activities.

Lagos State Government announced September 21st, 2020 as the resumption date for schools in Lagos. However, according to a statement released by Kayode Abayomi, the head of public affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Education, only present JSS3 and SS3 students will be allowed to resume classes on September 21st,2020.

Although Some States Governments have announced resumption dates for schools. But, the Federal Government of Nigeria is yet to announce a particular date for resumption of schools Nationwide.
