We’ve always had this beefs and fights on what tribe is the best, between the Igbos, the Yorubas and the Hausas, forgetting the other tribes. The truth is all tribes are beautiful and unique in their own way, but a tribe that sweep us off our feet when it comes to Weddings is none other tribe than ( drum rolls) the Yoruba tribe.

Whenever you hear Yoruba Weddings, what first comes to your mind, well I’ll tell you what comes to mine first. Fun, bustling parties, different delicacies. Yorubas are well known for the owambe parties.

Yoruba weddings are very lit is it from the “Alaga Iduro” (The MC which in most cases is a woman) to the funny prayers( If you’ve been to a Yoruba wedding, you will know what I’m talking about) to the groom and his friend prostrating for the bride’s parent, or to the tungba music, and also the beautiful attire won by the close friends and family of the couple, with each group having their own different attire.”Aso Ebi”…and lastly the food( what’s a Yoruba wedding without food, I don’t know, well you tell me..Every part of a Yoruba wedding is a lovely sight to behold.

Just recently, I found out that Yorubas do not collect dowry, I was quite shocked, and they made their reason known to all that the reason why they do not collect dowry, it’s because they are not trading their daughters away, so they see no reason why they should collect bride price. Amazing I must say.
