As the deadline given to SIM subscribers to link their respective SIM cards with their families National Identity Number (NIN) draws nearer, the federal government of Nigeria has given all telecommunications companies the license to provide NIN for their subscribers who have not registered yet.

This order was given to all telecommunications companies as a result of the crowd gathered at NIN Registration offices across the country, the Punch reports.

This information was given by the director-general of NIMC, Aliyu Aziz on Tuesday, January 26th.

The director-general also said that some other private and public organizations were also given the license to issue NIN, so as to reduce the crowds at NIMC offices.

According to the report, some NIMC workers said that the minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Patami created a committee to address the demands of the commission’s workers.

A few weeks ago, the nation witnessed protests by NIMC employees. The workers had had gone on strike, because of the poor welfare of the commission’s workers, but the strike was later called off when the Isa Patami intervened.

Although many complaints have been laid over the difficulty of registering for NIN across the country, the federal still stands ground over the fixed deadline set for NIN-SIM linkage.

SIM subscribers should note that the deadline still remains February 9, 2021.
