Seeing These Places, You’d Never Want to Take a Vacation Anywhere Else!

Hello! A big shout-out to Miss Omoboye—she’s the major inspiration for this article. If offered a vacation, many of us (including me) would rather spend our money and time away from Nigeria and its wahala. However, I would like to show you that this country offers even more luxury, and adventure than you could imagine.

Enough talk—let’s get to it!                                            

1. Whispering Palms Resort.

Do the palms actually whisper?  

Don’t ask me—go find out yourself. Located at Iworo, Off Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Whispering Palms is arguably the best resort in Badagry. With an entry fee of 500 naira, the resort boasts exotic animals, beachfronts, and beautiful gardens.

If you’re looking to escape the buzz of the city, then this is what you are looking for. As you settle down, make sure to relish the breeze from the Atlantic Ocean that blows all your worries away. Add that to classic restaurants and comfortable hotel rooms; I don’t think you’d want to leave.

When you go, you should definitely enjoy a boat ride, and play a variety of games. Don’t forget to swim, visit the museum, and see the zoo. (If you don’t take pictures, I’m going to sue you.)

Indeed, the only thing missing is you.

2. Agodi Gardens.                                                       

A brief walk into a haven of peace.

Located at the foot of the Old Mokola Hill, Parliament Road, Ibadan in Oyo State, this garden is the very definition of tranquillity. It boasts an abundance of forestry, water parks, play areas, picnic spots, restaurants, a lake, and a mini zoo.

Should I talk about the lush surroundings, the calmness, or the pure natural beauty—this garden is enough to make you forget about reality! While you’re there, you might as well take some time to enjoy the quietness of solitude, go for photo-shoot sessions, and use picnics to bond with family.

Did I mention that the entry fee is completely free? I musta missed that!

3. Idanre Hills.

Hoping for a life-changing adventure? This is the place for you!

Located in Ondo State, this infamous tourist centre offers a view the likes of which you’ve never seen. The climb takes an average of 3 hours—so be prepared for an engaging time with family and friends.

Even if you’ve never hiked before, you should be able to do this one—as long as you can physically push yourself. Make sure to soak the views up as you climb, take pictures, and just enjoy the process.

When you get to the 660th step, you’d be able to explore the ancient community through levelled trails, after which you can find your way back to the starting point. For a gate fee of 1000 naira, it’s an experience worth having.

You’ll need all the hydration you can get so bring lots of water, a face towel, shoes with firm grips, snacks (probably a packed lunch), and some cash, if you want to buy drinks.

4. Ikeja City Mall.

Shopping freaks in the house say Yay!

This experience is definitely one for the books. Located at Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ikeja, the mall boasts 100 stores trading quality brands, over 12 restaurants, fun centres, cinemas, and beauty salons.

You could decide to see blockbuster movies at Silverbird Cinemas, treat yourself to international and local delicacies, or shop for clothes, groceries, and household items. This place is the bomb!

Not to mention that the mall takes on a completely different look after dark, for after-parties and what-not. Crown off the day with a well-deserved massage and don’t forget to thank me later. #wink

5. Yankari Natural Park.                                                                                                                                        

Prepare yourself for an unforgettable adventure…

Finally yet importantly is a large wildlife park (about 2244 sq. kilometres) located in the South-Central part of Bauchi state. If you are interested in seeing animals in their natural habitat, this is the place to go.

 If you prefer the hot temperature, you should visit in March or April. If not, May to April would be a better time for you.

This park currently boasts of the largest herd of elephants in Nigeria, and one of the largest in West Africa. Apart from that, there are also more than 350 bird species. Not to mention various animal species ranging from the annoying baboon (make sure they don’t steal your food) to the “quiet” hippo.

You can also soak in the Wiki Warm Springs (you will marvel at the warmness of that water) and enjoy some delectable cuisine at the restaurant. Perhaps the best part would be when you explore the caves used by the “early men” (you didn’t see that coming, uh?). Yes, there are caves.

Besides, the museum also offers rich snippets of history you’ll be glad to hear. Overall, I’m sure it’d be a delightful experience for you and your family.
