Juventus president, Andrea Agnelli no longer believes that its possible for the breakaway competition to become a reality.

This came after all six Premier League clubs involved in the breakaway withdrew from the competition amidst intense pressure from the footballing community.

Few days ago, a group of Europe’s 12 biggest clubs decided to form the Super League. This proposed league would see these clubs go toe to toe every mid-week.

While some perceived the competition to be money-driven, others see it as a set-up that could divide the footballing world. Hence, it received a lot of backlash from fans, pundits and players across the footballing world.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham have all pulled out of the plans for the new European competition, with each offering a statement of apology to their supporters.

Agnelli expects the competition to be disbanded, but he’s still convinced about the beauty of the project.

“To be frank and honest no, evidently that is not the case.

I remain convinced of the beauty of that project. But admittedly … I mean, I don’t think that that project is now still up and running.” Agnelli said when poised by Reuters if the competition could manifest after the exits.

Pressed on if he regrets the way the Super League was conducted, he responded: “If you tell me other methods for putting together such projects … if you were to ask the authorisation of others, I don’t think you would have carried out a project like this.

“The relations are there, I have seen relations changing in time, some people I am quite sure that people will be open and talk to each other.

“I don’t think our industry is a particularly sincere, trustworthy or reliable one in general.”
