The government heard our torment yet to them, it was like a song. A song to their ears for entertainment. It did not make any difference that our lives are hard, or that we are unsafe, constantly being killed in our motherland. The only thing that is in any way important to them, is their ego.
When we are killed, they play politics and excuse themselves from blame. Poverty is renewed every morning yet they claim they are a competent government. They label the youth as lazy and blame the inactions of a few for the stained name we presently bear universally. Ironically, they and their predecessors are the real fraud and looters. To date, we are still recovering Abacha’s looted funds.
Unfortunately, in this country, children get kidnapped, and people get killed by bandits and the government does not get aroused into protecting the lives of its citizens. Yet, just one deleted tweet from Twitter they quit faking dead and switched into action because their ego is way more pricey to them than the lives of the citizens that elected them into power.
Like big bad bullies, they are trying to shut our voices, wanting us to bear their neglect in silence. Funny enough, we are simple people. People who just want constant electricity, good roads, clean water, sound education, security and employment. Nothing out of the ordinary, just basic amenities.
In contrast, recently, all we see is the spilt blood of the innocent. To access basic human rights, you must be rich and associated with the upper class. Here, a man’s conscience has a price and his life is sometimes worth less than a penny.
Gracious heaven! Polytechnics have been on strike after just resuming due to the lockdown and absolutely nothing is done about it. It is as if they have completely forgotten about the millions of students stuck at home, however, they are capable of flexing power over one deleted tweet.
Recently, it seems like tomorrow already kicked the bucket yesterday and there is very little to be optimistic about. In this country, the youths are labelled docile yet are chastised when they decide to rise. The offspring of a helpless man is simply completely allowed the opportunity to turn into a hooligan and a sex worker. Good opportunities are daily removed from their reach and they have to struggle tenaciously to achieve anything worthwhile because in this country, nepotism triumphs above meritocracy.
Unfortunately, by no fault of ours, we were born into this country. Cheers to every Nigerian, we are survivors.
