Thiago Sets New Record on his Debut.

After just completing a £20m($26m) transfer from Bayern Munich, the Spaniard made an immediate impact on his debut for Liverpool against Chelsea on a Sunday that could be described as “super”.

The former Bayern Munich man came in for the injured Reds captain, Jordan Henderson and immediately showed how important he could be at the middle of the park for the Reds this season.

Thiago completed an incredible 75 successful passes more than any Chelsea player, including those that played for full 90 minutes – only Mateo Kovacic comes close with a total of 64 successful passes to his name.

This has seen him set a new record for most passes completed by a player who played a maximum of 45 minutes according to Opta.

The game wasn’t all rosy for the new man, though, as he tripped Timo Werner in the area for a penalty. However, the Reds goalkeeper Alisson Berker would deny Jorginho from the spot to save the Reds blushes and in the process keep a clean sheet.

Liverpool won the game by defeating Chelsea 2-0, courtesy of two goals from an extraordinary Sadio Mane who was a complete menace throughout the match for the Chelsea defence and having Andres Christensen sent off for a challenge on him as he ran through on goal.

The win means that Liverpool have made it two wins from two as they start the defence of their title on a high note. They would be back in action again against Lincoln City in the EFL cup on Thursday, before a crunch encounter with Arsenal back in the premier league on Monday.
