D’banj finally cleared of rape allegations levied against him in 2020

The singer was faced with the allegations in June 2020 and has since been under investigation.

Nigerian veteran singer, Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has officially been cleared of the rape and N-Power fraud allegations leveled against him by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence Commission (ICPC) back in 2020.

According to reports, the singer was cleared immediately after investigations were completed.

An affidavit submitted by an Abuja-based lawyer, Toheeb Lawal, to the District Court of Abuja, vindicated D’banj of the allegations levied against him by the NPF and ICPC.

It reads, “The allegation was investigated and there is no medical report on the victim to ascertain that she was raped. There are no adduced facts or corroborative evidence to substantiate the allegation of rape against the suspect. Prima facie offences of indecent assault, rape, and intimidation are not made out.”

“However, the complainant, through her counsel, Ojoge, Omileye & Partners, submitted a letter, dated July 17, 2020, to the DIG Force CID, to voluntarily withdraw the petition and discontinue the investigation.”

Recall that the singer was accused of rape in June 2020 by young lady, Seyitan Babatayo, who claimed the singer too advantage of her at Glee Hotel in Victoria Island, back in 2018.

D’banj had said at the time that he was innocent, adding that the incident is a slap to his marriage. He also sued Babatayo, requesting 100 million in compensation.

Soon after the allegations, the Nigerian Police began investigation into the matter. Three years after, however, the singer is now free of all allegations levied against him.
