I remember one time, my phone got missing, and I felt really bad, cause there were so many important things on that phone, it was like half of my life got missing you know. It was really bad, only for me to get home and I was told, someone picked up the phone when they called and told them I had forgotten it there. Luckily for me, I got my phone back, but most times, people don’t get in contact with people who stole their phones or even more get their phone back. In this case, the only important question is how to trace and recover your stolen phone, so let’s get right to that.

  • Tracking Apps: There are so many apps that can help you recover your phone when it gets missing or stolen, but the only way this can work is if you have these apps installed on your phone before this happens. These apps have features that fasten up the process of recovering your phone.
  • Using the phone IMEI Number: IMEI is an acronym for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It is a 15-digit number that is used for several purposes, of which one of it is tracking and recovering stolen phones. You can get your IMEI number by dialing (*#06#). Take note of your IMEI number beforehand so it won’t be irrelevant to you. Whenever you use your mobile phone to make or receive calls, the IMEI number is sent to the network base station by phone, and this is what makes tracking possible. Little wonder, how it’s easy for some government agencies to track down frauds, now you know. All you need do is contact your network provider with your IMEI number to block the phone(blacklist) this action will make the phone useless to whoever stole it, cause nothing can be done with it, and when recovered, you can request for the phone to be unblocked.
  • Use Google: Have you heard of “Find My Device” well, it’s a service by Google that is very effective in helping you find your phone when gets missing? This can be used to locate and recover your Android device, as long as it’s connected to a Google Account, to the internet and the phone is switched on. It can be used for free through the official website, and an easier way is just to search it up on google. It will show you places your device has been, how you can erase data, and how to secure your device. You could also find the app on Google Play Store.

Next time, rather than crying and feeling bad about your missing/stolen phone, you can follow any of these three methods, and thank me later. Do you know other ways? Were you able to recover your phone after it was stolen, do share with us how you did it, in the comments section below?
