Manchester United’s woes at home continues

Manchester United were beaten at home, yet again by Arsenal on Sunday with a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penalty proving to be the difference between the sides.

That defeat means they have made their worst start to the league campaign since David Moyes was manager with seven points from their opening six games in the league; leaving them 15th on the table.

After a resounding performance at home against RB Leipzig in the champions league on Wednesday, United were poised to make the same impact in the league. However, the Red Devils were blown away by a dominant Arsenal side in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 100th game in charge of the club.

United started with a 4-4-2(diamond) formation that paid off against Leipzig last week. A formation which saw Pogba make his first league appearance for the club since the Tottenham mauling.

Arsenal started with Thomas Partey and Elneny in midfield, and the two bossed the midfield for most of the encounter; Thomas especially was dominant throughout the game and wonderwondewonderwon he was awarded Man-of-the-match.

A clumsy tackle by Paul Pogba on Hector Bellerin in the 18-yard box was duly punished with a penalty. Aubameyang would step up to take the penalty which he calmly converted. In the process, he became the first Arsenal player to score a penalty at Old Trafford.

The 1-0 defeat means that United have now gone four home games without a win for the first time since 1972. 

For Arsenal, it was a day to remember as they secured their first league win at Old Trafford since 2006. The win ensured that they climbed up to eighth with 12 points after seven outings.
