The federal government of Nigeria has announced that the use of the National Identity Number (NIN) is mandatory for the registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This was announced on Thursday, January 21 by the minister of education, Adamu Adamu in a meeting held in Abuja, Nigerian Tribune reports.

Nigeria federal government declares that NIN is mandatory for JAMB registration.

The minister ordered that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to work along with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to ensure the smooth JAMB registration process in the country.

He said;

“The use of the National Identity Number (NIN) for Jamb registration by candidates is now a government policy.

“Jamb is working closely with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), to ensure the sustainability of this policy and eliminate multiple registrations.”

2709updates gathered information that this policy was attempted by the board two years ago but failed due to the very low NIN enrolment rate at that time.
