The talented footballer has annouced that time has come for him to hang his boots.

Argentina and Barcelona forward Sergio Aguero has annouced his retirement form the game of football due to a heart condition.

After 10 years at Manchester City, Aguero moved to Barcelona as a free agent in the last transfer window, but found playing time difficult as he struggled with a calf injury.

Although he missed the start of the season with his new club, the striker managed to make five appearances for Barcelona before a serious health scare ruled him out indefinitely.

Despite efforts to see that he plays football again, Aguero has decided to hang his boots rather than taking the risk to play again.

“This conference is to announce I have decided to stop playing professional football,” he said during an official press conference at Camp Nou.

“It is a very difficult moment. The decision I have taken is for my health [and relates to] the problem I had a month-and-a-half ago. I have been in good hands with the medical staff.

“I made the decision 10 days ago after doing everything possible to have some hope of playing on. I am very proud of my career. I always dreamed of a professional career since the first time I touched a ball at five.

“I want to thank Atletico Madrid who took a chance on me when I was 18 and Manchester City, everyone knows how I feel about City and how well they treated me there.

“I will leave with my head held high. I don’t know what awaits me in the next part of my life. But I know I have people who love me. I will always remember the amazing things.”

What was Aguero’s career like?

Aguero started his professional football career at Independiente, a football club in his native country Argentina.

Not long, Aguero was discovered by european clubs with Atletico Madrid managing to sign him in 2006. He scored 102 goals in 234 appearances for the Spanish club.

The prolific striker would move on to Manchester City where he enjoyed the best of his career. As it stands, Aguero is the highest goal scorer for City with 260 goals in 390 appearances.

To top it up, the 33-year old is the top-scoring foreign player to have played in the Premier League and has the most hat-tricks in the competition’s history.

Some even say that he scored the most iconic goal in the Premier League when he scored 94th minute winner to hand City their first ever Premier League title.

After spending 10 years at City, he went on to Barcelona and scored a goal in five appearances for the club.

He didn’t do bad either at international level…

Aguero scored a whooping 41 goals for Argentina in 101 appearances for his country.

In total, the former golden boy recipient scored 427 goals in 786 games for club and country. No wonder he his regarded as one of the most prolific strikers to have graced the game.

Unfortunately, Aguero has to retire because life comes first but football lovers will not forget the “Aguerooooooooo” sounds that filled the air when he handed City their first League trophy.
