Varane becomes the latest member of absentees for Real Madrid after the 27-year old tested positive for covid-19 earlier today. This means that the world Cup winner will be unavailable to play any part in either legs of the clash with the English team as he most now self-isolate.

He would also be absent for a crunch El Classico encounter with arch-rivals Barcelona at the weekend as he has to take in a period of self-Isolation.

Now, this comes as a source of worry for Zinedine Zidane who has seen his team without key players for most of the season. Madrid are already without captain Sergio Ramos, Federico Valverde and summer signing Eden Hazard due to injury.

“Real Madrid CF informs that our player Raphael Varane has given a positive result in the Covid-19 test that has been carried out this morning.” the club confirmed via their official website.
